Hannah DEAKIN (1828-1887)

Hannah DEAKIN (also spelt DAKIN) was the youngest daughter of George DEAKIN (c1792-1863), a warp draper, and Rachael GRIMSHAW (1795-1855). Hannah was born on 26 March 1828 in Skircoat, Halifax, Yorkshire, and was baptised at Bolton Brow Wesleyan Chapel, Halifax on 3 November 1828 by Thomas Pinder.

By 1834, the family had moved to Stockport and as a young girl, Hannah, worked as a cotton weaver in one of the Stockport cotton mills. In the 1841 Census, the family are recorded as living on New Bridge Lane, Stockport, Cheshire:

  • Rachel Deakin, 45 years
  • John Deakin, 20 years, Cotton Weaver
  • Mary Deakin, 20 years, Throttle Spinner
  • Hannah Deakin, 14 years, Cotton Weaver
  • Samuel Deakin, 8 years

By 1851, Hannah had moved to 60 Lancashire Hill, Heaton Norris. Hannah worked in one of the Heaton Norris cotton mills and on 1 January 1854, Hannah married Edward GUEST (1830-1854) at St Thomas’ Church, Heaton Norris.

Edward and Hannah had the following children:

  2. Martha Ann GUEST, b. 1861, Brinnington, Cheshire
  3. Clara GUEST, b. 1863, Heaton Norris, Lancashire, m. Jeffrey Maddick, 1888, Stockport, d. 22 May 1933, Blackpool, Lancashire

Hannah died, aged 59, in Stockport, Cheshire, in 1887. Edward GUEST died, aged 74, in Stockport in 1904.
