Sarah Ann DEAKIN (1873-1960)

Sarah Ann DEAKIN was the daughter of  Samuel Pownall DEAKIN and Sarah Ann SIDEBOTTOM. Sarah was born in 1873, Wigan, Lancashire.

In the 1881 Census, Sarah is recorded as a ‘Scholar’, living at 13 Wignall Street, Wigan, with her mother, Sarah and her 7 brothers and sisters. In the 1891 Census, Sarah, aged 17, is recorded as living at 49 Corporation Street, Wigan, with her parents, brother and 4 sisters, occupation ‘Jam Wrapper’.

Sarah married Robert ALSTEAD OBE (1873-1946) in 1896 in Wigan at Wigan Registry Office. Robert and Sarah had the following children:

  2. George Deakin ALSTEAD, b. 1898, Pemberton, d. Nov 1988 (served with the Lancashire Fusiliers, appointed 2nd Lt. 26th June 1918).

Sarah died in 1960 aged 86.

Robert ALSTEAD was MP for Altrincham, Cheshire from 6th December 1923 to 29th October 1924. Robert died at Gathurst, near Wigan, on 9 September 1946, aged 72.
